Hackwatch 1

Hello, good people.

Thought I'd start off with a cheap shot, since that's more or less where the fun's to be had.

Feel free to read this article in the Daily Mail, warning you of impending doom if you are foolish enough to attempt anything as dangerous as an Atkins-style low carb diet.

What interests me is that "The warning comes after leading nutritionist Dr Susan Jebb claimed Atkins posed a long-term health risk".

Which is all sweet and fine, until you do a little bit of digging and find out that Dr Jebb is in bed with Windy Miller.  The Flour Advisory Bureau.  An organisation which "promotes the role of flour & bread as part of a balanced diet through educational material".  Obviously they don't have any problem with people adopting a low carb life style, do they?  I mean - what could they possibly have to lose if people stopped eating bread, cakes and pies?

The moral of this story is - just because somebody is an expert - it doesn't mean that nobody is pulling their strings.  Always keep your Baloney Detector set on Amber Alert.  Dr Jebb is a doctor, an unquestioned expert in her field, AND is as entitled to her opinion as anyone else.  But unless the press make these links plain when they run with a PR press release, they aren't giving you the full picture.
